Hello!

My name is Robert Taylor.  I am Head of the North American Matriculation Program of St. John’s International School in Bangkok, Thailand.  Currently, I teach Physical and Life Science and fill in for English (Writing for Academic Purposes) when necessary.  All of my students learn in English, which is a second or third language for most of them.

I am also privileged to be on the faculty of the Canadian School of Management in Toronto, Canada  and in 2000 was elected 'Master Teacher' on the faculty of the University of Action Learning of Boulder, Colorado and the International Management Centres of Great Britain.

As a resident of Thailand for the past several years, I have taught:

        - High school and College-level English at the Ayutthaya Technical
          Commercial College,
        - Technical English at the Ayutthaya Technical Training Center
        - Business English for the Linguistic and Computer Center of Bangkok.

It is my pleasure to be the instructor for the Sunbridge Institute of English TESOL teacher training certificate course (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and for the new Writing English for Academic Purposes (WEAP) course.  The TESOL course is aimed at providing training in teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language and directed primarily at people who are interested in teaching overseas. WEAP is a great way to improve your writing skills - especially if you are about to enter college, are already there and need writing help, or if you are a teacher.

Many people feel that, because they speak English, they can teach the language to others.  There is a great deal more to teaching than that.  First, you have to revisit your grammar rules so that you can explain them to your students.  You have to learn about lesson planning, student motivation, measuring the effectiveness of your teaching, and getting along in a foreign culture and environment.  the TESOL course covers all those aspects of teaching overseas and WEAP can definitely assist you as a teacher of English writing skills.

Teaching ESL / EFL is a very rewarding career and you should be well prepared when you undertake the challenge.  You will have more confidence in yourself and be better able to handle classes if you have a good background in ESL methodologies and a book of classroom activities and ideas upon which to draw.  I hope you will take our course and join the growing list of successful Sunbridge graduates. Right now, I have students taking the TESOL course in: Canada, USA, South Korea, Hong Kong, Columbia, Singapore and Thailand. I am also very much looking forward to helping many people around the world to improve their writing skills through the new WEAP course.

I am always interested in hearing from anyone interested in teaching or learning English. You can best reach me by email at either <[email protected]> or <[email protected]>

Sincerely,

Robert Taylor MA/TESL, BBA, G Mgt, FLMI, Cert TESOL
