1. A Note from the Publisher

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

There are few experiences that are more enriching than teaching in a foreign country. You become part of the culture, get to understand how differently other people think and react. It gives you a different perspective on the world. Not everything will be ‘as you expected it’ and you may find it hard to adjust to some things. You will bring many cultural ideas with you as well and students of all ages want what you can teach them. All in all, teaching abroad is a great way to spend a couple of years of your life.

2. Add Your Resume!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

If you are interested in teaching in Asia - or know someone who is- we are building a new database of teachers and aspiring teachers. You can add your resume FREE. A summary of available teachers will be sent to schools throughout Asia and we will help you to find a suitable position. For a copy of the information we need, send a blank email to our autoresponder:

"[email protected]". You will receive a form within a couple of minutes - which you can then forward by email to our Bangkok office: [email protected].

3. Tips for Teachers: Timeless Topics

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

What are 'timeless topics'? These are little fillers that you can

use anytime. They are useful if your planned lesson took less time than you anticipated and you suddenly find yourself with

10 -15 minutes to kill. What do you do? If you have a couple

of these timeless topics in your bag or tricks, it is not a problem. These could be language games, 'build-a-story-on-the-board', creative genius, or anything else upon which you can draw from your experience. Our TESOL Course has a number of these activities to start you off. With a bank of timeless topics, you'll never be left wondering how to keep a class full of kids busy!

4. New Discussion Group

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

We want to make our web site more interesting and we want

to do more for you. So, we have started a new 'discussion

group' and we invite you to join. Because of the strong need

for teachers in Asia, we have made Asia the focus of the group.

Of course, it is FREE and we hope you will take advantage of it. It is open to the public and is designed as a place where teachers can exchange ideas, lesson plans, questions, and experiences.

Do you have a question about Asia? Post it on the discussion group! Here's how to access the group:

(You would not believe how many qualified ESL teachers are needed RIGHT NOW in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and China!)

5. Interesting Web Sites - Tongue Twisters!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Tongue twisters are always fun and ESL students love them as well. The 1st International Collection of English Tongue Twisters has 372 of these on their site. Teachers: Bookmark this site. These are great when you have a few minutes left over at the end of a lesson: http://www.uebersetzung.at/twister/en.htm

Know of any other interesting sites? Email them to us at <[email protected]>. We'll check them out and share them in future issues.

6. Lesson Plan - Letter Geography

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Letter Geography is a lesson plan idea for elementary

teachers who are teaching the letters of the alphabet.

Use a world globe or map to find a country of body of

water that begins with the letter you are teaching.

'A' could be Argentine, Arctic, Atlantic Ocean, for

example. You can then teach a little about that place

and your students can look for other places that begin

with the same letter.
